Paul Polte (* 1877 in Silesia ; † 1952 in Hof , Vogtland) was a German sculptor and restorer.

Life

Polte studied at the Dresden Art Academy and was a master student of Georg Wrba . From 1913 he lived in Dresden . At least in 1924 and 1936 he was an employee of the Zwingerbauhütte and, alongside Georg Wrba and Alexander Höfer, was involved in the execution of the comprehensive restoration of the Zwinger under the direction of Hubert Georg Ermisch . The sculptors Horst Beck, Karl Bräunig, Heinz Dietrich, Albert Jahn, Rudolf Kreische , Otto Päßler, Max Pfänder , Otto Pietsch, Ernst Pütz and Ernst Schellenberg also participated.

As a result of the air raids on Dresden in February 1945, Polte lost his apartment at Nürnberger Strasse  46 and his studio at George-Bähr-Strasse 10, and a large part of his work was destroyed. Bombed out, he left Dresden in 1945 and moved to Hof, where he died in 1952.
