Career

According to his own account, Raymond began his career in jazz at the age of 17 after placing an ad in local music magazines. From January 1964 he played with many different musicians, including bassist Dave Green . He joined the Ian Bird Quintet and often played with them in Blackheath . In 1967 Raymond played in his first band, Plastic Penny , which were dedicated to pop music. Other well known members were Nigel Olsson and Mick Grabham . In 1968 the group broke up after the album Two Sides of a Penny . In 1969 and 1970 two more albums came on the market that had been recorded before the separation. Then he heard that Christine Perfect the band Chicken Shack had left to John McVie to marry. He applied for the job and learned to play the Hammond organ with the help of Nigel Olsson . He joined Chicken Shack in 1969. After the albums 100 Ton Chicken and Accept , he left the band in 1971. He joined Savoy Brown directly and stayed there until 1976. After UFO released the album No Heavy Petting in 1976 with keyboardist Danny Peyronel, Paul Raymond toured with the band as opening act for Rainbow to promote the album. In 1977 the album Lights Out was released , on which Raymond played the keyboard for the first time. After the album Obsession 1978, however, the German guitarist Michael Schenker left the band, which led to its decline. He also plays keyboards and guitar on the live album Strangers In The Night .

After the album Misdemeanor (1985), he left the band again in 1986.

In 1993 he returned to UFO as they had reunited. However, only the album Walk On Water emerges from this collaboration , as Raymond had already left in 1999. However, since 2003 he has been a permanent member of UFO again and has occasionally been heard on Michael Schenker's projects.

Raymond died of complications from a heart attack in April 2019 ; he was 73 years old. At the time of his death, UFO had only just begun what was known as a final world tour known as "Last Orders".
