Paul Renucci

Paul Renucci (born March 8, 1915 in Erbajolo , Haute-Corse department , † November 9, 1977 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer ) was a French Romance scholar , Italianist and literary scholar .

life and work

Paul Renucci, son of the Italian professor Toussaint Renucci , attended schools in Clermont-Ferrand and Marseille , then the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris. He studied in Pavia and at the Sorbonne . After the Agrégation he was a high school teacher in Toulouse from 1936 to 1945, teaching at the university and doing journalistic work. In 1951 he completed his habilitation in Paris with the work Dante disciple et juge du monde gréco-latin (2 volumes, Paris 1953–1954). From 1946 he was Maître de conférences at the University of Strasbourg , from 1952 to 1957 professor (from 1951 to 1954 also in Manchester ). From 1957 Renucci held the chair for Italian and Romanian at the Sorbonne (later Paris IV University ) as the successor to Henri Bédarida . He died before his retirement . Renucci was a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
