Pavlo Oleinik (born February 21, 1989 in Khmelnitsky ) is a Ukrainian wrestler . He became European champion in 2013 and won bronze medals in free style in the light heavyweight division at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships .

Career

Pawlo Oleinik started wrestling in 1997 as a teenager. He focuses on the free style. He is a member of the CSKA Khmelnitsky sports club and his coaches have been Nikolai Taradai, Alexander Panikar and Grigori Danko , who has looked after him since 2012. The blonde athlete is a student and, at a height of 1.89 meters, is wrestling in the light heavyweight category, up to 96 kg.

Pawlo Oleinik's international career began in 2006 at the European Junior Championships (age group Cadets). He took 2nd place in the weight class up to 76 kg. In the final he was defeated by the Russian Nikolai Kortojew. In the following years he also took part regularly in the international junior championships. He only managed to win a medal at the 2009 European Junior Championships in Tbilisi. He finished there in the light heavyweight behind Jamaladdin Magomedow , Azerbaijan and Dibir Jalilow, Russia, a 3rd place.

In 2010 he started for the first time in an international senior championship. He lost his first fight against Nicolae Ceban from Moldova in Baku in the light heavyweight division and ended up in 10th place. In 2011 he was also used at the European Championships in Dortmund. He won there with victories over Mihai Taranteanu, Romania and Kamil Skaskiewicz , Poland, a defeat against Wladislaw Baizajew , Russia and a victory over Hamza Köseoglu, Turkey, a bronze medal and thus his first international medal in the senior category.

In 2012 he could not assert himself in his weight class in Ukraine. Because of this, he did not appear in the international championships this year, including the Olympic Games in London this year. For Ukraine, Valery Andriizew started this year at both the European Championship and the Olympic Games and finished 2nd in both events.

In 2013, Pawlo Oleinik was used at the European Championships in Tbilisi. He was able to convince there completely and with victories over Ljuben Iliew , Bulgaria, Josef Jaloviar Slovakia, Egson Schala, Albania and Kamil Skaskiewicz became the new European champion. In September 2013 he also competed at the World Championships in Budapest. There he defeated Wratislaw Chotas, Czech Republic, Ljuben Iliew and Nicolae Ceban, Moldova, but lost in the semifinals against the 2011 World Champion Reza Yazdani from Iran quite clearly on points (1: 8). In the fight for a bronze medal at the World Championships, he gave Georgian Dato Kerashwili no chance in a 9-2 point win.

At the European Championships 2014 in Vantaa, Pawlo Oleinik reached 5th place in the light heavyweight division. After winning two fights, he lost there against Chetag Gasjumow from Azerbaijan and in the consolation round in the battle for a bronze medal against Ivan Jankowski from Belarus. He was not used at the World Cup that year.

His next start at an international championship was the 2015 World Championship in Las Vegas. He won a bronze medal there in the light heavyweight division after losing his first fight against Kyle Snyder of the United States, with wins in the consolation round over Radoslaw Baran, Poland, Jose Daniel Diaz Robertti, Venezuela and Abbas Tahan, Iran.
