The Bunte lousewort ( Pedicularis oederi ) is a species in the genus lousewort ( Pedicularis ) in the family of broomrape plants (Orobanchaceae). It is widespread in the northern hemisphere in Eurasia and North America .

Vegetative characteristics

Pedicularis oederi grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 5 to 15 centimeters. The stem is angular. The leaves are pinnate, with serrated leaflets.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from June to August. The flowers stand together in short, terminal racemose inflorescences .

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic with a double flower envelope . The crown is 20 to 25 millimeters long, yellow, the upper lip is brown-red in front, without a beak.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

Pedicularis oederi subsp. In Central Europe, oederi thrives best on fresh, loamy, more or less basic grasslands , especially on amphibolite , limestone slate , marble or dolomite . It is a character species of the Caricetum firmae from the Seslerion association, but also occurs in other plant communities of the order Seslerietalia albicantis.

Pedicularis oederi subsp. oederi is an arctic-alpine, Asian and North American floral element . In Austria Pedicularis oederi subsp. oederi is rare and only occurs in the Central Alps (Styria, North Tyrol, Vorarlberg). It also grows in Liechtenstein , in South Tyrol (on the Alpe di Siusi ) and in Switzerland (on Mount Pilatus, for example ).

Systematics and distribution

The first description of Pedicularis oederi was made in 1806 by Martin Vahl in Jens Wilken Hornemann : Forsøg til en Dansk Oeconomisk Plantelaere , 2nd edition, pages 580-581. The Artepipheton oederi honors the botanist and doctor Georg Christian Oeder .
