Pentro di Isernia DOC or Pentro for short are dry Italian red , rosé and white wines from the province of Isernia in the Molise region . The name Pentro is derived from the ancient tribe of the Pentrer , a part of the Samnites who once lived in this area. The wines have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since May 17, 1983 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The cultivation and vinification of the wines is permitted in the following municipalities of the province of Isernia: Agnone , Belmonte del Sannio , Castelverrino , Colli a Volturno , Fornelli , the eponymous municipality Isernia , Longano , Macchia d'Isernia , Montaquila , Monteroduni , Pesche , Pietrabbondante , Poggio Sannita , Pozzilli , Sant'Agapito and Venafro .
