Poggio Sannita (in the local dialect: Caccavòn ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 618 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Isernia in Molise . The municipality is located about 25.5 kilometers northeast of Isernia , belongs to the Comunità Montana Alto Molise and borders directly on the provinces of Campobasso and Chieti ( Abruzzo ).

history

The early settlement in pre-Roman times is assigned to a sub-tribe of the Samnites , the Carakians . In the Middle Ages there were then several Saracen invasions . The place is first mentioned in a document in 740. Until 1922 the place was still called Caccavone .
