Falanghina Flegrea is a white wine variety that is likely of Greek ( Samnite ) origin . It owes its name to the ancient viticulture system phalange , d. H. tied to the stake in Latin . Possibly it is a descendant of the ancient Aminea variety , which was used for the white variant of the famous Falerner in ancient Rome. The earliest reliable evidence is provided by a treatise from 1825. Cultivation is recommended in the regions of Campania and Abruzzo , while cultivation is permitted on the island of Sardinia . In 1999 a planted vineyard area of 833 hectares was raised.
The late-ripening Falanghina (about September 2 half) is mainly in the Italian region of Campania near Naples cultivated where they, for example, the DOC - white wines Capri , Campi Flegrei , Costa d'Amalfi , Falanghina del Sannio , Falerno del Massico , Galluccio , Guardiolo , Penisola Sorrentina , Sannio , Sant'Agata de 'Goti , Solopaca , Taburno and Vesuvio . It needs a warm and dry climate. The grape is small, round, grayish-yellow, with a frosted skin and firm, sweet-sour flesh. The aroma of the berries can be better preserved through modern cellar technology.
As part of the campaign in favor of the rediscovery and upgrading of traditional and regional grape varieties, Falanghina is experiencing a small renaissance. In honor of the Falanghina, a "Rassegna regional", a regional wine festival, takes place every year at the end of September in the town of Sant'Agata de 'Goti .
