Peoria is a city in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona , United States , its northernmost part already belongs to Yavapai County .
With over 160,000 inhabitants (2016 estimate, US Census Bureau ), it is one of the largest cities in Arizona. The population more than tripled between 1990 and 2010. Like many cities in Arizona, Peoria will have to deal with the consequences of the population boom in the years to come.
The urban area has a size of 366.9 km². The houses in Peoria are mostly single-family houses in the Mexican-Spanish style . Peoria can be described as a suburb of Phoenix (Arizona) . US Highway 60 and Arizona State Route 101 run through Peoria .
geography
The city is located in the northwest of the city of Phoenix in the greater Phoenix area. The urban area is north and east of the town of Surprise and northwest of Glendale . In the west there is also the place Sun City West and in the east the place New River . The Agua Fria River and the New River flow through the urban area, the northern part of which consists of undeveloped desert .

At the last census in 2010, the then 154,065 inhabitants were distributed among 64,862 households, with an average income of 69,589 US dollars per household. The median age was 39.5 years and the percentage of the population with at least a high school diploma was 92.7%. 8.2 percent lived below the poverty line.
