Per-Åke Holmlander

Per-Åke Holmlander (* 1957 in Skellefteå , Västerbotten ) is a Swedish tuba player and cimbasso player. He has worked in the fields of jazz , improvised music and new music .

Career

Holmlander studied classical tuba at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Michael Lind and received his diploma in 1983. As an improvisation musician, he worked with Eje Thelin , Marilyn Crispell , Paul Lovens , Folke Rabe , Phil Minton , Sten Sandell , Sven-Åke Johansson , Mats Persson , Günter Christmann , Kjell Westling , Keith Rowe , Jan Allan and Position Alpha . With Mikołaj Trzaska , Steve Swell and Tim Daisy he formed the formation Inner Ear .

He also played with Mats Gustafsson & NU ensembles, the Jon Vanderlander Trio, the Swedish Radio Jazz Group, the Ken Vandermark Territory Band and the London Jazz Composers' Orchestra. Holmlander plays theater music, has solo appearances and has released two solo albums. He is also on albums by the Barry Guy New Orchestra, Fredrik Ljungkvist & Yun Kan 10 , Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, the Torden Kvartetten , Christer Bothén Acoustic Ensemble, the Fire! Orchestra , Swedish Azz , the Ken Vandermark Resonance Ensemble and the Large Unit by Paal Nilssen-Love .
