Pere Tena Garriga (born May 14, 1928 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat , † February 10, 2014 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish liturgical scholar and auxiliary bishop in Barcelona .

Life

Pere Tena Garriga was ordained a priest in Barcelona on July 29, 1951 . He studied theology and philosophy at the seminary in Barcelona (1940–1959) and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1950–1954).

He was coadjutor in Horta and Gracia (1954–1958), professor at the seminary of Barcelona (1956–1967), promoter and director of the Center for Pastoral Liturgy (1958–1973 / 1982–1987), Director of the Pastoral Liturgy Magazine "Phase" (1960 –1987) and advisor to the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy (1962–1987). In the Facultat de Teologia de Catalunya (Facultat de Teologia de Catalunya) he was professor (1967–1998), dean (1967–1973) and president (1973–1984). He also held leadership positions in liturgical and sacramental diocesan pastoral care (1973–1983) and was director of the Liturgical Institute (1985–1987). From 1987 to 1993 he was a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Barcelona and titular bishop of Pumentum on June 9, 1993 . The Archbishop of Barcelona Ricardo María Carles Gordó donated him episcopal ordination on September 5, 1993 ; Co - consecrators were Cardinal Narciso Jubany Arnau , Senior Archbishop of Barcelona , and Cardinal Antonio María Javierre Ortas SDB , Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments . On June 15, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Commission for Liturgy (1993–1996 and 2002–2008), a member of the Commission for Interdenominational Relations (1993–1996) and President of the Commission for Liturgy (1996–2002).

Act

He was the founder of the Center for Pastoral Liturgy (Centro de Pastoral Litúrgica CPL), which had a great influence on the implementation of the reforms of the Second Vatican Council in the Catalan-speaking region of Spain and also in the Latin American world.

He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute Sant'Anselmo in Rome (2001).
