Pereira is a town and municipality in Portugal .

history

The Igreja da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Pereira was built in 1730 in Pereira

The place was created during the Christian Reconquista . The first documented mention of the place comes from the year 1158. King D. Dinis gave Pereira first city rights in 1282, which were renewed in 1513 by King D. Manuel I.

Like other areas in the Mondego valley , Pereira experienced an economic boom with the beginning of maize cultivation in the 16th century. It remained the seat of an independent district, with only one municipality of the same name, until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 . In 1836 the Pereira District was dissolved and incorporated into the Santo Varão District . Since its dissolution in 1853, Pereira has been a municipality in the Montemor-o-Velho district.

In 1991, after 1282, Pereira was again elevated to a small town ( Vila ).
