The place Carapinheira is documented for the first time in a letter from King D. Afonso V of June 16, 1450, when João Eanes da Carapinheira, who came from here, was appointed guardian of the Botelha à Torre forest . Since the 16th century there have been frequent mentions of the place that show a clear economic development, probably as a result of the beginning of maize cultivation .
