Arazede is a village and municipality in Portugal .

history

Arazede is mentioned for the first time in a document at the time of the County of Coimbra , 1087. Its first town charter (Foral) was given in 1514 by King Manuel I. In 1781 Arazede became a district ( concelho ), which in 1840 was attached to the district of Cadima (today the district of Cantanhede ) . This in turn was dissolved in 1853 and assigned to the district of Montemor-o-Velho.

In 2009 the community was elevated to a vila (small town).

economy

Agriculture (corn, vegetables), especially livestock farming, is of particular importance. In addition, administration, social institutions and some small to medium-sized enterprises (logistics, trade, metal processing, food industry) offer employment. In April 2012, Minister of Agriculture Assunção Cristas announced the promotion of cattle breeders. With the Parque Logístico e Industrial de Arazede , a larger commercial area is also being planned.

Until the suspension of the Ramal da Figueira da Foz in 2009, the municipality was connected to the railway network with the Arazede train station and the Bebedouro stop. The completion of the renovation work and the reopening of the line have been postponed until further notice in view of the country's financial crisis.
