Pit Clausen (actually Peter Clausen ; born May 12, 1962 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician ( SPD ). On 30 August 2009, he became the mayor of the city of Bielefeld elected , his term began on 21 October.

Pit Clausen is the son of Hans-Christian Clausen and Ingrid Helga Clausen (née Albuschat) and has a twin brother, Jürgen Clausen. He has been in a registered partnership with Thomas Sopp since January 20, 2012 .

After studying law at Bielefeld University (1982–1989), Clausen worked as a judge at various labor courts in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Clausen joined the SPD in 1983, one year after moving to Bielefeld, and has been a member of the Bielefeld City Council for the SPD since 1994. From 1994 to 1999 he worked as the social policy spokesman for the parliamentary group and then until 2004 as chairman of the youth welfare committee. Since 2002 he has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Bielefeld.

Already in the local elections in 2004 Clausen ran against the incumbent Eberhard David for the office of Lord Mayor. Clausen was defeated, however, in a runoff election with 137 votes behind David.

In the local elections in 2009 , Clausen was elected with 43.3% of the vote. His opponents were Bernd Landgraf ( CDU , 40.2%), Marianne Weiß ( The Greens , 9.8%), Harald Buschmann ( FDP , 3.2%) and Hans-Joachim Ludwig ( close to the citizens , 3.5%).

In the local elections in 2009, Pit Clausen stated that he wanted to work primarily for climate protection at the local level, the expansion of care for small children, all-day schools and “joint learning” beyond the fourth school year.

For the 2014 local elections , Clausen resigned prematurely in order to enable the local and mayoral elections to be merged. Pit Clausen won the runoff election with 55.9%, his opponent Andreas Rüther from the CDU received 44.1%.

In 2017, Clausen was a member of the Federal Assembly for the SPD as the representative of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Offices

Pit Clausen has been chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalia City Council since 2016 .
