Peter Hefti

Robert Peter Hefti-Spoerry (* 6. October 1922 in Zurich ; † 17th September 2012 in Glarus South ; heimatberechtigt in Schwanden GL ) was a Swiss politician and lawyer and FDP - Senate .

biography

Hefti's grandfather and father were members of the government of the Canton of Glarus . After studying in Bern , Zurich, Geneva and Basel , receiving his doctorate (1947) and being admitted to the bar (1949), he practiced as a lawyer in Glarus . 1963–1990 he presided over the High Court of the Canton of Glarus. As a politician of the Free Democratic Party , he was Glarus District (1953-1968) and Municipal Council (1959-1990) and Mayor (1978-1986) of Schwanden.

In 1968 Hefti was elected to the Council of States by the Glarner Landsgemeinde , of which he was a member until 1990. Among other things, he was in the military, foreign trade and federal railroad commissions and served as president of the finance delegation. In 1980/81 Hefti was President of the Council of States .

Hefti was a member of numerous boards of directors of industrial and insurance companies and was a board member of the Association of Swiss Machine Manufacturers . From 1990 he ran a law firm, Drs. Peter and Thomas Hefti , in Glarus with his son . His areas of expertise were commercial law , international law , tax and duty law , contract law and civil law .
