Peter Meusburger

Peter Meusburger (born March 14, 1942 in Lustenau , Vorarlberg ; † December 18, 2017 ) was an Austrian geographer and university professor .

Life

Peter Meusburger studied from 1962 at the University of Innsbruck geography , where he at Hans Kinzl 1969 auspiciis sub for Dr. phil. doctorate and in the field of geography in 1980 habilitated . In 1983 he was appointed to the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , where he held a chair for economic and social geography at the Institute of Geography until his retirement in 2007 and after his retirement he became the university's first distinguished senior professor . At Heidelberg University he was also Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences in 1987/88 and 1988/89 , Vice Rector in 1991/92 and 1992/93 and a member of the Senate from 1999 to 2006, as well as Senate Spokesman and curator of the Heidelberg University Foundation .

He was visiting professor at various universities in Japan , China and Brazil . From 2001 to 2003 he was President of the German Society for Geography . As a citizen of Handschuhsheim , he was a member of the district council of Heidelberg .

In his academic work, he dealt with the geography of education and qualifications, labor market research and regional women's research. From 1994 he was a scientific adviser to the Vorarlberg state government , for the state of Vorarlberg he examined, among other things, the emigration of highly qualified people from Vorarlberg and the educational history of Vorarlberg.

Peter Meusburger died on December 18, 2017 at the age of 75.
