Peter Scherer (musician)
Peter Scherer (* 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss composer, arranger and producer.
Life
Peter Scherer studied with György Ligeti and Terry Riley , among others, and moved to New York in 1980 . He worked as an arranger, studio musician and producer and has played with Kip Hanrahan , John Zorn , David Byrne , Marc Ribot, Jun Miyake, Nile Rodgers, Cameo, Ikue Mori and Naná Vasconcelos , among others . With Arto Lindsay he founded the noise-funk duo "Ambitious Lovers". As a producer worked with Caetano Veloso , Bill Frisell , Corin Curschellas , Ute Lemper and Naná Vasconcelos, with whom he has worked for many years, as an arranger and as a musician on many of their tours and studio recordings.
He realized compositions for film music with Never Again, Forever and Another Road Home for producer Danae Elon , also for Voodoo - Mounted by the Gods (2001) by Alberto Venzago , for the Brazilian film Sobras em Obras by Michel Favre and Aline from Kamal Musale .
He wrote music for two productions of the choreographer Amanda Miller , Pretty Ugly and No Wild Ones , for the Frankfurt Ballet , as well as for the ballet of the Opera Zurich to Essey and Pannes.
Peter Scherer has lived in Zurich since 2010, where he mainly composes music for documentaries and feature films. He also teaches at the HKB in Bern in the field of sound arts and at the ZHdK in Zurich in the field of music for film, theater and media .
In 2013 he received the Swiss Film Prize for the best film music for More than Honey .
