history

For the first time Traxler and Katzer met around 1973 in the made for young audiences telecast Spotlight of the ORF . In an interview conducted for Ping Pong in June 1978, the two artists explained their common genesis in a dialogue as follows: Katzer “Bamschabl”: “... and due to lack of money, I actually got around to stupid things that I do seriously. I also played in groups, so I was discovered by Peter Rapp for Spotlight, so to speak. ”- Traxler“ Muckenstruntz ”:“… and [there] I realized that we would actually fit together very well. It only happened 2 years later when Wolfgang went to a company with record suggestions that I had already been to with a record. There they said: 'Well, actually we have a second one who would suit you very well.' "According to Bamschabl, the wording was:" Do is no such a madman with us! " The time of the interview was "about 2 1/2 years", therefore starting around the turn of the year 1975/76.

There are two versions of the origin of their duo name: The name given because the different heights of "Muckenstruntz" with 1.56 m compared to "Bamschabl" with 1.98 m was striking. In the above interview from 1978, when asked how Muckenstruntz & Bamschabl came about, Traxler explained this as follows: “... The name was actually invented by a lady who ran the canteen in the concert hall . They used both expressions as swear words, but as amiable kind of swear words for all kinds of people who were there. "

As Muckenstruntz & Bamschabel they then got their own ORF show in 1976. Muckenstruntz always embodied the role of the "little stupid", Bamschabl that of the "big boy". Bamschabl described his role in 1978 as follows: “I'm incredibly good-natured, great, the best you can ever imagine, domestically, pleasantly, the ideal man par excellence. I think that is a modest list of my special characteristics. ”- Muckenstruntz:“ As a counterpart , the opposite automatically arises for me. ”

Programs and appearances

Initially, the two developed their appearances alone (Bamschabl in the original sound: "... we muddled ourselves"). In 1978 they received support from “Mr. Götz Kauffmann on a voluntary basis”, although the ideas continued to come from them. The programs were written down as complete shows from start to finish, the encores were improvised. In terms of style, Muckenstruntz described her appearances as “a mixture of everything that has already existed, but actually not yet in the form in which we are doing it.” And Bamschabl added: “We try, for example, to bring cinematic things onto the stage such as slapstick […] [Our compilation has not yet existed […] there was a certain niche in the market that we can now, I believe, have closed… ".

Muckenstruntz & Bamschabl's first program was called Couriosity Theater . This was a 'play with a crumbling piano and breakfast in a coffin'. This was followed by the entertainer show and the scrabble twilight . Director Stefan Mras brought the duo to the Theater Forum in Vienna's 9th district in 1981 .

Performances took place throughout the German-speaking area, but mainly in Vienna and the surrounding area, for example in the Metropol or in the Gloria Theater . The two appeared on television in a number of shows. You also worked in films, such as Neues vom Räuber Hotzenplotz or 1977 Three Swedes in Upper Bavaria (Tyrol) . They played two officers in the operetta Die Landstreicher in 1978 in the Raimund Theater in Vienna .
