Peter Voser (2009)

Peter Robert Voser (born August 29, 1958 in Baden ) is a Swiss manager . He is Chairman of the Board of Directors and temporarily also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ABB Group from April 17, 2019 until the end of February 2020 . Prior to that, Voser was CEO of the oil and natural gas group Royal Dutch Shell .

Life

Voser grew up in Neuenhof and Würenlos in the canton of Aargau and attended school in Baden. After a commercial apprenticeship , he graduated from the HWV Zurich, the predecessor school of the School of Management and Law . Between 1982 and 2002 he held various positions at Royal Dutch Shell. From 2002 to 2004, Voser was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). In this function he was heavily involved in the turnaround of ABB, which was ailing at the time. From 2004 Voser was Chief Financial Officer of Royal Dutch Shell. On July 1, 2009, he succeeded Jeroen van der Veer as CEO at Royal Dutch Shell in The Haguefrom. As of January 1, 2014, he stepped down as CEO of Royal Dutch Shell because he wanted more time for his family and for himself in his private life. He returned to Switzerland and stayed with Shell Switzerland until the end of March 2014. He was succeeded as CEO by Ben van Beurden . On April 30, 2015, he was elected Chairman of the Board of ABB, succeeding Hubertus von Grünberg .

Voser is a member of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding (Switzerland), IBM Corporation (USA) and Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited (Singapore) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Catalyst Inc. (USA). From 2005 to 2010, Voser was a member of the UBS Board of Directors . He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies , and on September 3, 2013 he succeeded Josef Ackermann in the role of President of the Board of Trustees.

With an annual salary of almost 15 million euros, he was, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the highest-earning CEO in Europe in 2009.

Voser is married and has two daughters and a son. He lives in Widen in Aargau .

Award

In 2011 the Sultan of Brunei awarded Voser the title of “Dato Seri Laila Jasa”, which is roughly comparable to the “Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire” and expresses gratitude for the 90-year partnership between Brunei and Shell .
