Peter of Gourcy

Count Peter von Gourcy (* 1705/1706 in Nancy ; † 19/21 December 1795 in Vienna ) was an Austrian , and most recently Prussian, cavalryman and general .

Following the literature used, it becomes clear that there is considerable potential for confusion and confusion with his alleged brother of the same name, which explains the deviations in Wurzbach and Priesdorff. Gourcy comes from a Lorraine Uradelsgeschlecht to which in 1709 the earldom come is.

He entered the imperial military service in 1722 and in 1730 was an ensign in the Savoy Dragoon Regiment . He proved himself in the Turkish War and was wounded in 1739 after being promoted to Rittmeister near Grocka .

In 1741 he was promoted to captain , took part in the war against Prussia in 1744 and 1745 , was promoted to major in December 1745 and rose to lieutenant colonel in the Ansbach cuirassiers in 1746 and finally became a colonel in 1753 . He also took part in the Seven Years' War on the side of the Austrians and stood out in front of Lowositz . He also took part in the battles near Prague , Breslau and Leuthen . In 1758, on January 1, he was promoted to the rank of major general , but is also said to have been promoted to sergeant general on February 8, 1758 . Finally in 1760 (Wurzbach) or on May 13, 1764 (Priesdorff) he rose to field marshal lieutenant .

After Priesdorff, on the recommendation of Prince Eugene of Württemberg , he entered Prussian services in 1767 as a major general with special assignments from the king and diminished on July 12, 1768; after Wurzbach, on the other hand, he left Austrian service in 1787 and died in Vienna at the age of 90.
