Life

Petrișor Gănănău started boxing in his hometown of Târgu Jiu. He mainly worked with the trainer Mihai Prunariu. He then boxed for Minerul Jilt Mătăsari . At the time he was a member of the police in Târgu Jiu and was supported by a local sponsoring group after he had already been retired by the Romanian boxing association "for lack of prospects".

In the years 2001 to 2003 Gănănău was Romanian junior champion in the light middle and middleweight division. In 2002 his career also began in the international boxing ring. This year he won the bronze medal in the light middleweight division (up to 72 kg body weight) in Santiago de Cuba . He won the same medal at the European Junior Championships in 2003 in Warsaw in the middleweight division. Here he lost to Yegor Mechonzew from Russia in the semifinals .

2004 Gănănău was the first Romanian middleweight champion with a victory over Ronald Gavril . For the Olympic Games in Athens he could not qualify. In the next few years he failed again and again in Romania due to Ronald Gavril and Constantin Bejenaru , so that he did not get any further appearances at international championships for the time being. In 2008 he was defeated in the finals of the Romanian light heavyweight championships (up to 81 kg) against Constantin Bejenaru. This year he was used in the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Beijing in Athens in the heavyweight division (up to 91 kg) and was only defeated in the semifinals against Helios Pawlidis from Greece on points. But he missed the qualification for the games.

At the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 , which took place after the Olympic Games in Beijing, he finally managed to win a senior medal in the heavyweight division. He came in the heavyweight division to the semi-finals, in which he was defeated against Yegor Mechonzew on points.
