The Pfünz is a less than 3 km long stream in the southern Franconian Alb in the Eichstätt district in Bavaria , which flows into the lower Altmühl from the right and south across from the Waltinger Almosmühle . The brook runs in a valley gully which, above its usual origin as the Pfünzer Tal, runs uphill for about 7 km, above which the 3 km long Pfünzer Bach flows in the flatter plateau basin .

geography

course

The Pfünz usually arises at about 389  m above sea level. NN about 1.7 km southeast of the center of the village Pfünz the municipality Walting at the confluence of a dry southeastern upper valley host due , above Töchtertal , as well as a significantly longer southwestern dry upper valley Pfünzer Valley . From here the stream flows towards Pfünz, crosses it and emerges in the right Altmühlaue. A little afterwards it flows into 382  m above sea level. NN in an oxbow of the river running from the right and south across from the Almosmühle of the community in the lower Altmühl .

Catchment area

The creek, which is quite short for its - superficial - catchment area of about 47 km² with 2.6 km of normal length drains part of the karstified southern Franconian Jura northwards to the lower Altmühl . In the north it competes along its entire length with the nearby Altmühl itself, in the east with the dry valley system of the " Arnsbacher " Schambach , which also runs north to the Altmühl and only has water in the middle valley. Beyond the southern watershed, the next permanently draining watercourses are partly still further away; they are the rivers of Wettstettener Manterinbach , which run east-southeast towards the Danube, on a short section at the southeast corner and on a longer section of the Eitensheimer Retzgraben , which both reach the Danube via the Mailinger Bach . On the central and western part of the southern border, however, the left Schutter side ditch drains the Stabwiesengraben south of Buxheim via a series of ditches that accompany it and the Schutter itself into the Danube. In front of the west side of the catchment area there is no watercourse for a long time, the next, completely dry valley system of the Kindertal leads north again to the Altmühltal near Wasserzell .

The highest point is the 530  m above sea level. NN high city mountain on the northern watershed, which rises steeply above the Eichstätter hamlet Pietenfeld an der Leithen in the Altmühltal. On the south, the Hellerberg reaches 503  m above sea level east of Adelschlag . NN . On the forest-free plateau, the terrain is otherwise often over 450  m above sea level. NN , almost always over 420  m above sea level. NN .

Around half of the catchment area is forested, this part is quite compact mostly around the incised valleys, while the open parts are mainly on the plateau to the east and west of it. The settlements in the catchment area are in the still very flat plateau depressions of the dry valleys that are deeper cut downwards; there are the villages of Hofstetten in the northeast, Hitzhofen with the overgrown Oberzell in the southeast, all three belonging to the municipality of Hitzhofen , as well as the Adelschlager villages Adelschlag itself in the southwest and Pietenfeld in the north-west. The village of Pfünz in the Altmühltal community of Walting at the end of the Pfünz valley is mainly in the catchment area. A wedge of the Buxheim community protruding to the south is uninhabited and mostly forested.

Open upper reaches

  • From the Hitzhofen sewage treatment plant on the south-eastern outskirts to a little below 440  m above sea level. NN runs a trench about 1.1 km away south-west and ends in the area of baumumstandenen small pond.
  • West of Adelschlag, next to the Treuchtlingen – Ingolstadt railway line, the 3.2 km long Pfünzer Bach begins , which after passing through the village at the west foot of the Hellerberg in an east-south-east direction, shortly after entering the valley forest of the Pfünzer Valley, in a noticeable hollow to below 420  m above sea level NN seeps away. The subsequent section of the dry valley up to the usual source of the Pfünz is the longest in the dry valley system with around 7.0 km on the valley path .
  • From the eastern edge of the Biesenharder Fort , the hollow of the Pfünzer Bach flows a little below Adelschlag to a south-south-western one, in which an open ditch runs for about 1.0 km, then another 1.1 km flows underground from the ore mine , finally another 0.9 km open again, only to finally disappear into the bolus pit . The Pfünzer Bach is only about 0.3 km away. On the run-free section there is a 1.0 hectare pond and two smaller ones.
  • A 1.1 km long ditch south of Piethofen runs southwest to the edge of the forest and ends there to the left of the Pfünzer valley and in the northwest of the Hellerberg.
  • From the south of Pietenfeld to approx. 450  m above sea level. NN runs a stream about 1.8 km far southeast to the bottom of the valley and ends there Pfünzer to slightly below 415  m above sea level. NN .
  • Finally, from the middle eastern edge of the village of Piethofen, a ditch flows along the avenue 1.8 km to the east and ends at the edge of the forest at about 430  m above sea level. NN , in which some sinkholes are close .
