Pfaffendorf is in the form of a forest hoof village south of the urban settlement zone, elevated in a flat basin that slopes down towards the Biela . The Quirl in the west, the Heideberg in the east and the Pfaffenstein in the south rise in the immediate vicinity .

The surrounding villages are Gohrisch in the east, Papstdorf and Cunnersdorf in the southeast, Hütten in the west and Königstein in the north.

history

Several archaeological finds on the Pfaffenstein, including stone axes, fireplaces and bronze bracelets, can be assigned to the Lusatian culture and evidence of Bronze Age settlement activity.

The first documented mention of Pfaffendorf dates back to 1437 as "Pfaffindorf". The later documented forms of place names Paffendorff (1474) and Pfaffendorff (1548) also differ only insignificantly from today's place names. The name goes back to the medieval interest obligation of the inhabitants towards the Königsteiner pastors (→ priests ) , who ruled the place for centuries.

The village was predominantly agricultural, with additional earnings in the surrounding quarries as well as through the Biela and the Elbe flowing near Königstein . A trade route from Königstein ran through the village and continued via Kleingießhübel to Děčín (Tetschen). During the Great Northern War of 1706 and the Wars of Liberation in 1813, the residents withdrew to the Pfaffenstein in front of the approaching armies.

At the end of the 19th century, the gradual change from a farming village to an excursion destination began. The first hiking trails to the Pfaffenstein were laid out and an inn opened there in 1880.

The village already belonged to the electoral office of Pirna in the 16th century , from which the office of the same name emerged in the 19th century . After the Second World War and the administrative reform of 1952, the community remained in the smaller Pirna district in the Dresden district .

On March 1, 1994, the community with about 330 inhabitants was incorporated into the city of Königstein. During the first Saxon district reform that took place in the same year, the district of Pirna was merged into the district of Saxon Switzerland , which in turn was merged into the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains 14 years later .

In the early 16th century there were nine possessed men with one hoof of land each . By the middle of the century, the population grew to 14 possessed men and 10 residents , without the area increasing; So there must have been yard divisions in several places. In 1764, a year after the Seven Years' War , there were 14 possessed men and 8 cottagers .

In the first census after the Kingdom of Saxony joined the German Customs Union , 229 inhabitants were determined for Pfaffendorf in 1834. By 1855 the number rose to 291 inhabitants in 70 households, which were distributed over 43 houses. The number of inhabitants rose to over 460 at the turn of the century, but then fell to below 400 after the First World War . This was followed by renewed, moderate population growth until shortly before the start of the Second World War.
