The Globasnitz parish church in the Globasnitz community ( Carinthia / Austria) bears the patronage of the Assumption of Mary . The church was initially private church of Junecker, the Spanheimer and came in 1265 under the patronage of the pin Eberndorf . Globasnitz was first mentioned as a parish in 1296.

description

The Romanesque church in the core of the nave and the tower was changed during the Gothic period and extended by one and a half yokes to the west in 1946. Two-tiered buttresses support the choir, built around 1300. The tower on the south side of the nave has biforic windows on the bell floor and is crowned by a pointed gable helmet. A Gothic chapel is built to the west of the tower, to the north of the choir there is a sacristy with a baroque oratory on the upper floor.

A late Gothic loop rib vault rises above the four original yokes of the nave from the early 16th century above wall templates with half-columns . An organ gallery is built into the new west yoke . In the Gothic south chapel, the vault ribs were chipped off in the Baroque period , but the coat of arms consoles were retained. In the one-bay choir, the ribbed vault has been preserved, while at the end of the choir the vault ribs were removed and the nuns' heads of the tracery windows walled up inside.

The exposed wall paintings at the end of the choir were created in two stages: the older layer with the standing figures of the apostles Paulus and Jakobus major come from the first half of the 14th century, the more recent depictions of Saints Aegidius and Florian as well as the donor coat of arms of the Weispriacher were painted by Peter Seyter in 1467.

Facility

High altar, right side altar and south chapel

The baroque high altar with sacrificial portals was created by Johann Georg Mersy in 1770/71. The central niche contains a statue of the Virgin Mary with a child. The statues of the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul stand above the sacrificial passage portals . The essay is a three-dimensional representation of the dove of the Holy Spirit and the figure of God the Father surrounded by putti .

The two side altars were made in 1770. St. Catherine is depicted on the left and St. Margareta on the right . The rococo altar in the southern chapel, dating from around 1760, bears the sculpture of Saint Barbara , flanked by Saints Apollonia and Lucia . The holy water font in front of the south chapel was created from a Roman tomb.

The church also features statues of St. John Nepomuk and a Man of Sorrows, as well as a late Gothic baptismal font with a newer attachment.

Karner

Wall paintings in the Karner

The Karner north of the church is a late Romanesque rotunda with a wooden tower over the conical roof and a horseshoe-shaped apse . The medallion stele of the Peccia Ingenua with a portrait bust and grave inscription, walled in on the outside, dates from the turn of the first to the second century AD. The wall painting with the four lancers from the 16th century may have been part of a crucifixion scene . A pointed arched portal leads into the ribbed vaulted interior, which is painted with early baroque tendrils, the figurative representations of the archangels Michael and Gabriel , a mercy seat and a crucifixion with donors.

Pillar of light

The light column from the early 16th century consists of a tabernacle on an octagonal pillar with the coat of arms of the Weispriacher.
