St. Dionysius (Doveren)
The Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius is a listed church building in Doveren , a district of Hückelhoven in the Heinsberg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The baroque brick hall with a polygonal choir was built in 1771. The late medieval west tower with four floors is presented to the building. It was built from quarry stone in the 15th and 16th centuries and crowned with an eight-sided slate dome. In the east wall of the tower there are remains of masonry with Roman flat tiles from a previous building from around 900. A flat wooden barrel ceiling was installed in the interior . The church was badly damaged in World War II and rebuilt in 1949.
The building stands on a cemetery enclosed with a brick wall , on which there is a war cemetery .
Interior
- A Gothic baptismal font made of Namur bluestone, the former supporting columns have been lost.
- Behind the high altar is a crucifixion group from the beginning of the 16th century.
- The wooden standing figure of the Mother of God from the beginning of the 16th century comes from the circle of the Master of Elsloo , it was later recast.
- A panel painting of Anna Selbdritt from the 18th century
Bells
The church has a 4-part bell. They form the motif "Veni sancte spiritus".
