The Roman Catholic parish church Münzkirchen is located in Münzkirchen in the market town of Münzkirchen in the district of Schärding in Upper Austria . The church, consecrated on the Assumption of Mary , belongs to the deanery of Schärding in the diocese of Linz . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

A church was documented around 1030. At the time of the early church organization in the Middle Ages, Münzkirchen formed its own original parish . Like the parish of St. Weihflorian , it consisted of areas that originally belonged to the parish of St. Severin in Passau's Innstadt . In 1182, St. Severin and the "Innbruckamt" responsible for the administration of the Inn Bridge were incorporated into the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city center . Since then, the “Innbruckamt” has also administered the parishes incorporated into the hospital, which were to be assigned by the respective “Bruck pastor”. In addition to St. Severin with Schardenberg and Wernstein , these included St. Weihflorian , Kellberg , Hauzenberg , Kopfing , Münzkirchen and Tettenweis .

The Gothic church building was expanded in the Baroque.

architecture

The three-aisled, four-bay nave was probably extended from a single-nave Gothic nave in the 17th century. The nave has a groin vault. The north aisle has three bays with the tower in the fourth east bay. The slightly retracted one-bay cross-rib vaulted choir has a five-eighth end . The north tower - occupying the eastern yoke of the north aisle, consists of Gothic quarry stone masonry with loopholes, the top is eight-sided and has a baroque helmet from 1720.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1761 bears a Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary from the end of the 15th century, partly overcarved and restored in 1953.
