The Science & Art Festival Phaenomenale is a Wolfsburg- based festival that is dedicated to the connections between science, communication, art and music.

History of the Phenomenals

In 2007 the festival emerged from a cooperation between the Kunstverein Wolfsburg and Phæno . Various, changing cooperation partners were added later, such as B. the cultural work of the city of Wolfsburg. The festival events take place at various locations within the city. The festival was held annually until 2012; from 2013 it will be continued as a biennial. The event program aims to convey a changing main topic with current, socially relevant reference as comprehensively as possible. The festival works with various research institutions such as the ZKM Karlsruhe, the Technical University of Braunschweig, as well as internationally renowned artists such as B. Karl Bartos, Harun Farocki together. In 2013 the “Social Media Art Award”, endowed with € 10,000, was presented for the first time as part of the Phenomenale. This award is given to an artist for an artistic work that is based on activities in social networks or reflects and comments on these forms of communication and the production of meaning. In 2015, prizes were awarded in two categories: the Social Media Art Award and the Human Interface Award. Both prizes were each endowed with € 5,000.
