Philipp Bertram (politician, 1812)

Philipp Anton Maria Bertram (born November 12, 1812 in Winkel , † April 6, 1899 in Wiesbaden ) was a German lawyer and Nassau politician.

education and profession

Bertram was born as the son of the wine merchant and member of the Nassau state parliament Peter Jacob Franz Bertram (1779–1857) and his wife Dorothea, née Rösgen (1780–1848). Franz Bertram was his brother. He first grew up in Hachenburg , but came to Wiesbaden as a child. From 1826 on he attended high school in Weilburg and changed after high school in 1830 at the University of Heidelberg to where law to study. In 1833 he completed his studies with a doctorate to become Dr. jur. from. After graduating, he stayed at the university and worked from 1833 to 1834 as a private lecturer . In 1836 he entered the service of the Nassau state government.

In 1844 he became the Government appointed in 1848 to the Council of Ministers . Finally, in 1858 he was appointed director of the Nassau Chamber of Accounts and five years later director of the Nassau Landesbank . In 1864 Bertram was appointed director of the court and appeal court . After the incorporation of the Duchy of Nassau, Bertram was Vice President of the Prussian Court of Appeal for two years.

Philipp Bertram was a member of the House of States of the Erfurt Union Parliament , appointed by the Duke in 1850 . From 1852 to 1854 Bertram was a member of the first chamber of the estates of the Duchy of Nassau for constituency I ( Rennerod ). From 1878 to 1899, Philipp Bertram was a member of the Nassau Municipal Parliament as a member of the Wiesbaden district and from 1886 to 1899 age president . From 1868 he was a city councilor in Wiesbaden.

Works

Philipp Bertram wrote a number of legal works, including the book "Das Nassauische Privatrecht" in 1873. He played a leading role in the formulation of the Stock Book Act of 1851 and the Domain Act of 1861 (see also Nassau Domain Dispute ).

Honors

In 1892 he was made the first honorary citizen of Wiesbaden for his services as a city councilor. In the same year he became an honorary citizen of Hachenburg. Bertramstrasse in Wiesbaden's Westend is named after him.
