Philipp Bode

Philipp Bode (born August 25, 1806 in Bruchsal ; † June 22, 1877 in Mannheim ) was a lawyer and official member of the Baden civil service since 1838 , comparable to today's district administrator .

Life

After studying law , Bode became government secretary in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1838 . Then he was transferred to the district office of Müllheim and then to the district office of Schwetzingen , where he was promoted to magistrate . Finally, in 1843, Philipp Bode came to the Walldürn district office and in September 1848 became the head of the Sinsheim district office .

The time during the Baden Revolution of 1848/49 was very difficult for the bailiff Bode in Sinsheim , because the revolutionaries were organized in many popular associations in the city and in the district . The assessor Gustav Jägerschmidt was commissioned from June 19, 1849 to investigate which officials in the Sinsheim district office had compromised during the revolutionary activities. In his report, he judged Bode that Mr. Bode should have acted more decisively during the revolutionary era, and that his ambiguous official acts, by panning back and forth between the politically sharply separated inhabitants, made him distrust himself ...

This investigation did not harm his career and Philipp Bode was quickly transferred to the Gengenbach District Office as of September 27, 1849 . In 1852 he was promoted to senior bailiff and transferred to the government of the Lower Rhine District in Mannheim. In 1862 he was appointed to the government council and in 1864 passed into retirement.
