Gustav Jägerschmidt

Gustav Adolf Jägerschmidt (born May 19, 1814 in Rastatt ; † September 5, 1889 in Karlsruhe ) was a lawyer and magistrate who had been in the Baden state service since 1846 .

Gustav Jägerschmidt was the son of Karl Friedrich Viktor Jägerschmid (born June 27, 1774 in Karlsruhe; † January 8, 1863 there), chief forest officer and member of the forest commission in Karlsruhe, and Ernstine nee Vierodt (born December 30, 1787 in Karlsruhe), Daughter of the Chamber Council Vierodt in Karlsruhe. He married Maria Elvira, born Jägerschmidt (born October 22, 1817 in Hornberg ) in Freiburg on October 8, 1846 . From this marriage there were two children: Carl Friedrich Victor (* July 21, 1847 in Karlsruhe) and Gustav (* June 2, 1850 in Lahr ).

Life

Jägerschmidt studied law at the University of Heidelberg from the winter semester of 1833/34 , and in the meantime at the University of Freiburg , and graduated from the University of Heidelberg in 1839. In 1834 he became a member of the Corps Suevia Heidelberg . Afterwards I worked for various offices in Rheinbischofsheim , Rastatt, Hornberg and Baden . On January 14, 1846, he became a police assessor at the Lahr Oberamt and then in Mannheim until 1849 . From June 19, 1849 he was commissioned to investigate the conditions in various administrative districts during the Baden Revolution . On December 7, 1849 Jägerschmidt was promoted to bailiff in Lahr and from November 26, 1850 he was appointed town bailiff in Mannheim. On September 3, 1855, he was appointed head of the district office of Hornberg and, from July 31, 1857, a district judge at the newly created district court of Hornberg, where he was promoted to chief magistrate on September 9, 1857. On July 24, 1858, he was appointed chief magistrate at the Eberbach district office and then from July 15, 1864 at the Karlsruhe district office . On February 27, 1869 he came to the Durlach district office and was finally retired on April 14, 1879.

Baden Revolution

After the defeat of the Baden revolution four national commissioners were under the supervision of General Land Commissioner used in the four circles the order had to investigate what public servants who participated in the revolution or sympathizes with her. Gustav Jägerschmidt, at that time only assessor and at the beginning of his civil service career, was appointed for the investigation in the district of Sinsheim and other offices of the Lower Rhine District . In this function he was allowed to summon witnesses, summon and question public figures who were suspected of not having opposed the revolutionary movement. He was also allowed to provisionally dismiss mayors and citizens' committee members and temporarily appoint new officials. His investigation in the district of Sinsheim lasted ten days and Jägerschmidt delivered a comprehensive investigation report to the ministry. After completing this special assignment, which he carried out to the satisfaction of his superiors, Gustav Jägerschmidt was promoted and nothing stood in the way of his career.
