Philipp Bogislav von Schwerin (born May 31, 1700 in Rehberg ; † October 28, 1751 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 13 and knight of the Pour le Mérite , governor of Zossen and Drost von Bislich im Duchy of Cleves .

Philipp Bogislav was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Philipp Julius von Schwerin , heir to Rehberg and Lantzerow and his second wife Esther Eleonore von Borcke (born November 16, 1673 - † May 20, 1730). His sister Sophie Eleonore (born April 13, 1706; † July 16, 1769) was married to General Gustav Bogislav von Münchow . His brother Friedrich Julius von Schwerin (1699–1747) also became a Prussian general.

Military career

In 1720 Schwerin went into Prussian service after he had previously been the Leibpage of the Swedish King Karl XII. and was also a Swedish ensign . In the Prussian army he was given the name “the black Schwerin” to distinguish him from his brother Friedrich Julius, who was called the “blond Schwerin”. On January 29, 1737, as captain of King Friedrich Wilhelm I, he received the body regiment on foot as well as the office of Bislich and in 1738 that of Zossen .

In October 1740 he was transferred to the newly established fusilier regiment "Münchow" by the new King Friedrich II . In the same year he became a colonel and took over the infantry regiment "Varenne" on December 14, 1744 . In 1745 he became major general. In 1746 Schwerin received the “von Braun” regiment from the king , and in 1750 he became lieutenant general.

He died on October 28, 1751 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison church there.
