Picauville is a village and a former French commune with 1,910 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the region of Normandy . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Canton of Carentan .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the former parishes of Picauville , Amfreville , Cretteville , Gourbesville , Houtteville and Vindefontaine were merged to form Commune nouvelle Picauville of the same name . The administrative seat is in Picauville. On January 1, 2017, the formerly independent municipality of Les Moitiers-en-Bauptois was added. All former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality .

Toponymy
Picauville is derived from the French ending -ville and from the name Picaud . Most likely the name Picaud is of Germanic origin (the Germanic name would be Picheldis )
