Pierre-Albert "Gabet" Chapuisat (born April 5, 1948 in Lausanne , Switzerland ) is a former Swiss football player and football coach. He played 34 times for the Swiss national team .

In the 1970s, Chapuisat was considered one of the most brilliant Swiss footballers thanks to his amazing technique and clear overview of the game. On the other hand, he was notorious for his quick temper. His son is the former soccer player Stéphane Chapuisat .

Career

In 1967, at the age of 19, he scored a goal against FC Sion in the semi-finals of the Swiss Cup with Lausanne-Sports . The final took place on May 15, 1967 against FC Basel . The game was stopped because the Lausanne players refused to continue playing after a controversial penalty decision by the referee and subsequently counted as a 3-0 defeat for Lausanne-Sports.

In 1981 he won the final of the Swiss Cup against FC Zurich with Lausanne-Sports .

In 1985 Chapuisat committed a foul on Lucien Favre in the game Servette FC - Vevey-Sports , which was described as "the worst foul in Swiss football", although it was not punished by the referee. Favre sued for willful assault and Chapuisat received a fine of 5,000 francs. Vevey Sports dismissed him without notice. Chapuisat ended his career as a player at FC Renens.

From 1988 he was the first player- coach at a national league club , at FC Bulle . In 1990 he was released.

In May 2007 he took over as the successor to Marco Schällibaum and as the club's third coach in the current season, FC Sion . He achieved third place in the Swiss championship with the team . After five games he was released and took over as coach at ES Malley in June 2007 . On April 1, 2009 he was dismissed from the club for improper conduct against the trio of referees in the match against FC Echallens on March 28, which had ended 2-1.

In October 2009 he succeeded Diego Sessolo as coach of FC Le Mont-sur-Lausanne , who was at the bottom of the Challenge League in the Swiss championship at the time.

In 2011 he was again, as the successor to Paolo Martelli, coach at ES Malley . In 2012 he returned to Yverdon-Sport FC as a coach , but was fired after four months. In January 2013, Chapuisat took over the coaching position at the second division Forward Morges. He was dismissed by the club the following year due to repeated insults against the referee in the game against Stade Payerne on June 15, 2014 and finally banned by the Swiss Football Association from all activities in a member club until the end of 2014.

In 2015 he became the coach of another Vaudois second division club, Bursins-Rolle-Perroy. In November of the same year he was fired, ended his career as a football coach and took up a job as a football columnist for the Nyon daily La Côte .
