Pierre Harvey , CM (born March 24, 1957 in Rimouski ) is a Canadian athlete. As the first male athlete from Canada, he took part in both the Summer Olympics (as a cyclist ) and Winter Olympics (as a cross-country skier ).
Life
Harvey won three gold medals in cross-country skiing at the Canada Winter Games in 1979 . For the first time in the Olympic Games he took as a cyclist in 1976 in Montreal in part. There he reached the 24th place in the road race. Between 1982 and 1988 Harvey also took part in cross-country skiing competitions and reached the 16th place over 15 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 . In total, he won three races in his career, including the 50 km race at Holmenkollen in 1988. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , he took the Olympic oath of athletes and came 14th over 30 km.
In 1988 Harvey received the Order of Canada . In 1992 he was inducted into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame , followed by induction into the Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame in 2006.
His son, Alex Harvey , was a cross-country skier at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and became world champion in the team sprint in Oslo in 2011 .
