Pietro De Maria

Pietro De Maria (born October 7, 1967 in Venice ) is an Italian pianist .

Life

The pianist grew up in Venice, where he also enjoyed his pianistic training. At the age of 13 he won first prize in the international piano competition " Alfred Cortot " in Milan . He later continued his studies with Maria Tipo at the Geneva Conservatory , where he graduated in 1988 with a “Premier Prix de Virtuosité”. He won prizes at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition and was first prize winner of the Zurich Concours Géza Anda in 1994.

Pietro De Maria's concert activity takes him to many halls and festivals in Europe and overseas . He has appeared as a soloist under conductors such as Gary Bertini , Myung-Whun Chung , Wladimir Fedossejew , Daniele Gatti , Roberto Abbado , Gianandrea Noseda , Alan Gilbert , Eliahu Inbal , Marek Janowski , Ton Koopman , Ingo Metzmacher and Sándor Végh .

De Maria's major CD project in the form of a recording of Chopin's complete piano works at Decca / Universal received great acclaim from specialist magazines such as Diapason, International Piano, La Musica and Le Pianiste . This was followed by obligations in Italy and France to perform the entire piano work in the concert hall. On the occasion of the Polish composer's 200th birthday, he gave Chopin evenings in 2010 in Berlin, Paris, Warsaw, Zurich, Rome, at the Festival de Nohant, in Beijing and Singapore. For several years he has been giving concerts with great success at the annual piano week of the Musikdorf Ernen festival in the Swiss canton of Valais .

The performance of contemporary music is an important component of Pietro De Maria's concert career; so he brought Ivan Fedele 's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in Italy for the premiere . Pietro De Maria teaches at the Scuola di Fiesole and in Pinerolo . In 2017 he was appointed to a professorship for piano at the Mozarteum Salzburg .

Recordings

In addition to the above-mentioned recording of Chopin's complete piano works, his recordings also include three sonatas by Clementi, a live recital at the “Miami International Piano Festival”, and Beethoven's complete works for violoncello and piano with Enrico Dindo. The recordings of JS Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and the Goldberg Variations on Decca are his most recent CD projects.
