Pilgerzell is a district of the large community of Künzell in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

geography

As a district of Künzell, Pilgerzell is also on the outskirts of Fulda between the city and the Rhön , which is visible from Pilgerzell. Pilgerzell borders Künzell in the west, Keulos in the north, Dirlos in the east and the Florenberg in the south.

history

Pilgerzell is mentioned in documents as biligrimcella as early as 830. Like Künzell, it was parish in the church center Florenberg . Under Abbot Hadamar (927–956) income from Pilgerzell was transferred to the famous arts and crafts school of the Fulda monastery . In 1510 Pilgerzell owned 10 cattle farmers. The place grew from 43 households in 1871 to 53 in 1938. Pilgerzell has had its own church since 1965 and has been an independent parish since 1967. On December 31, 1971, Pilgerzell was incorporated into the Künzell community. At the time of the regional reform, Pilgerzell had just over 1,500 inhabitants, today there are over 2,800. In 2006 Pilgerzell celebrated its 1050th anniversary.
