life and work

August Lindner went to school in Innsbruck and Meran and studied theology in Brixen and Trento from 1868 to 1875 . After his ordination (1872) he was a pastor in Tyrol (in Scharnitz , Schwaz , Tösens , Telfes im Stubai , Oberperfuss , Götzens and Thaur ). In 1885 he entered the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter in Salzburg and was given the religious name Pirmin . From 1901 he was the monastery librarian. Lindner, who had already published about the Benedictines before joining the order, put his life at the service of the history of the order, on which he published 46 scientific works, including 21 professorships (= monastic personal directories). He received suggestions for his research interests from Stephan Prantner (1782–1873) from Wilten Abbey , Leodegar Ineichen (1810–1876, last abbot of Rheinau Abbey ), and Amand Thomas Aloys Jung (1814–1889), predecessor librarian in St. Peter.
