Pyotr Semyonovich Ossadtschi

Pyotr Semenovich Ossadtschi ( Russian Пётр Семёнович Осадчий , Ukrainian Петро Семенович Осадчий Petro Semenowytsch Ossadtschyj * February 22 . Jul / 6. March  1866 . Greg in Schubowka , Kiev Governorate , † 21st May 1943 ) was a Ukrainian - Russian electrical engineer and university lecturer .

Life

Ossadtschi graduated from secondary school in Bila Zerkwa in 1885 (extra class in the chemical and technical department). He then studied in St. Petersburg at the newly opened University of the Post Telegraph Office , which in 1891 became the St. Petersburg Electrical Engineering Institute (ETI). After graduating in 1889, he became a young mechanic in the St. Petersburg Post Telegraph Office. In 1893 he became assistant to the head of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of the Postal Telegraph Ministry (until 1915). In 1894 he joined the Russian Technology Society. In 1896 he began to teach low-voltage technology at the higher electrical engineering school for the training of telecommunications (until 1914). In 1898 he was appointed professor to the chair for electrical telegraphy at the ETI.

In 1906 at the foundation of the EIT Popov Prize , Ossadtschi was a member of the award committee alongside Pawel Woinarowski (chair), Alexander Krakow , Michail Schatelen , Nikolai Yegorow , Alexei Petrowski and others.

After the October Revolution , Ossadtschi became director of the ETI in 1918 (until 1924) and chairman of the Central Electrical Engineering Council in 1919 (until 1929). In November 1918 and September 1919 he was arrested in connection with the trial of the cadets and immediately released. During the Kronstadt sailors' uprising , he was arrested again, but released immediately on Lenin's orders and the charges suppressed. In 1921 he became the first deputy chairman of the State Commission for the Electrification of Russia , later the State Planning Commission (until 1929). The focus of his work was the organization of telephone , telegraphy and radio traffic . In 1927 he was chairman of the committee of experts at the Committee for the Construction of the Volga-Don Canal , in 1928 chairman of the technical council of the Dneprostroi construction company and in 1929 a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee .

Ossadtschi was arrested during the Stalin Purges in October 1930 and sentenced to death by shooting in March 1931 as part of the trial against the fictitious counter-revolutionary industrial party , which was then commuted to 10 years in a labor camp .
