Friday around midnight is a German crime film by Werner Röwekamp from 1973. The television film was released as the 16th episode of the Polizeiruf 110 film series .

action

Dr. Dieter Lorenz and his employees celebrated the development of a new material. Drunk he leaves the party early and receives a call in his office, which he answers but does not tell the caller on the phone. Then he breaks into the cash desk of the company. When the alarm goes off, he tries to escape, but the security guard arrives. In front of Lieutenant Peter Fuchs and Lieutenant Vera Arndt, he pretends to have been drunk. He does not want to give a reason for the break-in.

The investigators first look for Dieter's wife Ilse. She reports that her husband has been very nervous for the past few weeks. He has no money worries, as both earn so much that they can live on their salary. Dieter's income will save both of them. Ilse gives the investigators the savings book. It turns out that Dieter has withdrawn the entire fortune of 12,000 marks in the last five weeks. Peter Fuchs and Vera Arndt also find out that Dieter wants to sell his beloved sailing boat. The boat repairer Schellong, where the boat was stored, does not know any reasons. He only knows that the sale for 10,000 marks was planned recently, but that the prospective buyer jumped out at short notice. Dieter reacted very angrily.

Vera Arndt suspects that Dieter is being blackmailed. She learns that he used to have a relationship with the doctor Dr. Brigitte Riedel had. Vera Arndt reports that she last saw Dieter four weeks ago. One Friday she and her friend Dr. Hannes Weißbach, a colleague of Dieter, celebrated her birthday afterwards. Dieter came to her apartment that evening because he needed Hannes at work. Both then drove away together. Hannes, in turn, only learned a secret that evening: Brigitte and Dieter have a child from their short affair. This news shakes Hannes, who was always disadvantaged compared to Dieter while he was a student. Nevertheless, he wants to start a family with Brigitte and is already looking for a common house. To be able to pay for the house, he needs a lot of money.

Peter Fuchs is busy with another detail: Dieter recently had his almost new car overmolded. He pretends that he didn't like the old color. Peter Fuchs learns from Schellong's son that the car also had a dent that he removed in the course of the overmolding. Vera Arndt is now researching possible accidents on Friday night after visiting Brigitte's birthday party. In fact, a motorcycle was stolen that evening and was found a little later. It showed strong signs of an accident.

Dieter receives a visit from Hannes, who demands the outstanding 10,000 marks from him. Otherwise he threatens to report Dieter. He also wants to tell his wife about the illegitimate child. Dieter refuses to pay because Hannes “is in it himself” in an advertisement. He has already confessed the illegitimate child to his wife. Hannes leaves, he doesn't know that Dieter secretly recorded the conversation. On a later call Dieter Hannes plays the recorded conversation. Hannes goes looking for Dieter. He turns to the police and admits everything. On the journey on Friday around midnight, he was slightly drunk and caught a motorcyclist who had turned wrongly into a roundabout. He thought the driver was dead. At Hannes' instigation, he abandoned the man and committed a runaway. Only later did Dieter call the ambulance. The driver, on the other hand, was only slightly injured in reality. During the interrogation with Vera Arndt, he confesses that he had stolen the motorcycle beforehand. When he heard the ambulance, he fled and sank the motorcycle a little later in a muddy area.

Dieter expects Hannes in his boat. When Hannes attacked him and tried to steal the cassette player, he was arrested by the police. Peter Fuchs also leads Dieter away.
