The Pond Fork (also known as the Pond Fork Branch or Pond Fork River ) is a river in southern Boone County in the US state of West Virginia in the United States .
It rises about 7 kilometers northeast of Kopperston just off West Virginia Route 99 and then flows to the northwest, where it merges with the Spruce Fork in Madison . From here the two rivers form the Little Coal River .
There are many former coal mines along the river that have played a central role in this region over the past two centuries. The water of the Pond Fork was used particularly in coal mining . The terrain through which it flows includes mountainous and dense forests. According to a study of the water quality , the aquatic living conditions for aquatic animals are very poor due to the environmental pollution of coal mining. First and foremost, the Spruce No. 1 mine .
Tributaries are Casey Creek , James Creek, and Beaver Pond Branch .
