history

Pontwitz was first mentioned in a document in 1246. After the division of the Duchy of Silesia , it belonged to the Duchy of Oels from 1312 , which was ruled by the Silesian Piasts until 1492 . In 1327 Duke Konrad I von Oels transferred his territory as a fiefdom to the Crown of Bohemia , which the Habsburgs held from 1526 . In 1495, the Bohemian King Vladislav II granted the Duchy of Oels as a hereditary fiefdom to Duke Heinrich I , a son of the Bohemian King Georg of Podebrady and in 1498 to his descendants.

Pontwitz Castle (1910)

For the year 1524 Wenzel Buchwitz von Buchau († after 1530) is documented as the heir to Pontwitz, whose family had been wealthy in Silesia since the early 16th century . After his death in 1545, the ponds and mills on the grounds of the Pontwitz estate were divided and the succession determined. The process was confirmed and certified by the then sovereign, Duke Johann von Münsterberg and Oels . Both ponds and the foundation walls of the old mill have been preserved to this day.

After the middle of the 16th century Pontwitz came to the noble family of Prittwitz and Gaffron . After the First Silesian War , like almost all of Silesia, it fell to Prussia in 1742 . After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Pontwitz belonged to the district of Oels from 1816 . In 1874 the district of Pontwitz was formed, to which the rural communities Ostrowine, Polish Ellguth and Pontwitz as well as the manor districts Dzielunke, Ostrowine, Polish Ellguth and Pontwitz belonged. In 1939, there were still 925 inhabitants in Pontwitz.

As a result of the Second World War , Pontwitz fell to Poland in 1945 and was renamed Poniatowice . The German population was largely expelled. Some of the newly settled residents were displaced from eastern Poland . 1975-1998 Poniatowice belonged to the Wrocław Voivodeship.
