overview

Poraż is a village with a Schulzenamt in the municipality of Zagórz in the Powiat Sanocki of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The place is in the Buków Mountains . The neighboring towns are the city of Zagórz ( Wielopole district ) in the northeast, Tarnawa Dolna in the southeast, Czaszyn in the south, Morochów in the southwest, Niebieszczany in the west and Zahutyń in the north.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1383 in the sentence villam novam que vulgariter Cuntzendorph nominatur in silva vulgariter dicta Poras or novam villam in memorata silva Poras adiacentem, vulgariter Cuntzendorph nominatam . The Waldhufendorf with 112 Franconian hooves came into being under the direction of the mayor Konrad in the Poras forest . In the year 1383 mentioned above, the Hungarian Queen Maria confirmed the sale of the village from the heirs of Conrad to Józef Olah and his brother Maciej. The term vulgariter (= common name) in relation to the name Kunzendorf indicated a German origin of the settlers. In the 15th century, some residents with German-sounding names were mentioned, and in 1445 a certain Weysiokel from the village of Kunczendorf visited the mostly German-speaking court in Krościenko Wyżne (45 kilometers to the northwest). However, the proportion of German residents at that time, as in neighboring Wielopole , is difficult to determine, and from 1412 the village was mentioned under the name Poraż : Porasz (1412), Parasze (1423), Prorz (1428), Porasch (1444), Porzasz (1489), Porasze / Poraszy (1505), Porąz (1515), Poraż (1635). The name of the village or the forest was originally * Porad with the suffix * -jь. The forms Poraż and Poraże confirm the variation in gender and Ukrainian phonetics (as in the case: Polish miedza - Ukrainian meża ).

The village initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (under Queen Maria temporarily to the Kingdom of Hungary , from 1569 it belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Ruthenian Voivodeship , Sanok region . During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Poraż became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). From 1855 Poraż belonged to the Lisko District . In 1900 the Poraż municipality had 583 hectares, 108 houses with 773 inhabitants, the majority of them Polish-speaking (770) and Roman Catholic (764).

After the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Poraż came to Poland in 1918. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . From 1975 to 1998 Poraż belonged to the Krosno Voivodeship .
