history

Prügel was founded as a manor in the early Middle Ages. The name Prügel, actually Brühl, Brül, Bruel, describes a swampy floodplain, or a wet meadow , which is well suited for hunting and fishing due to its high biodiversity . The estate with its then three properties was first mentioned in 1352. Langheim Abbey was named as the owner .

In 1406, Prügel came into the possession of Count Dietz von Giech through an exchange for other, smaller goods and a premium . The reason for this exchange was that the Langheim monastery wanted to get rid of the beating because of the inefficiency of the settlement. In the following centuries the estate remained in the possession of the von Giech family until 1747. Numerous changes of ownership then followed. In 1818 the place formed a parish with Maineck as the parish seat . In 1880 the Thuringian Friedrich Hermann Pufe acquired the estate. His descendants are still farming it.

On January 1, 1974, Maineck was incorporated into Altenkunstadt as part of the municipal reform .
