history

Early settlement history

The area around Strössendorf was settled for the first time in the Bronze Age around 1200 BC. This was concluded on the basis of a bronze rag ax and two bronze button sickles , which were found in 1928 by qualified engineer Deinzer and the Strössendorf teacher Oswald in a barrow between Strössendorf and Zeublitz. At the turn of the ages, the area was mainly populated by Germanic tribes who had settled as farmers and ranchers . The Teutons were ousted by the Thuringians until they gave way to the Franks in 491 .

While the Thuringian population decreased over time, from the end of the 5th century Wends moved to the region and settled peacefully next to the Franks. In the 8th century there could have been a predecessor to today's Strössendorf Castle , which was built by Charlemagne to stop the advance of the Wends.

Historical map of Strössendorf from 1851

In the middle of the 12th century the oldest surviving parts of Strössendorf Castle were built. The first recorded mention was in 1180, when the bishop of Bamberg Otto the Klosterlangheim buying "Stresendorf" by Rudolf von Widence ( Weidnitz confirmed).

Strössendorf became Protestant during the Reformation . In 1561, Wolf von Schaumberg's son installed the first Protestant pastor in the community. The church, which dates back to a previous building from 1557, was rebuilt and expanded under Achaz Georg von Schaumberg in 1614 and 1623. Unlike many surrounding villages and communities, Strössendorf with Weidnitz and Neuses remained Protestant even after 1648. This is confirmed in writing in the Osnabrück Peace Treaty .

From 1630 to 1690 Strössendorf was in the possession of the lords of Streitberg.

In 1801, the place belonged to the von Schaumberg residents of the castle, as well as the village, community, fiefdom , bailiwick and tithe rule . Fiefdoms owned the Burgkunstadt Office, the Weismain Office and the Langheim Monastery at that time .

On January 1, 1975, in the course of the municipal reform, it was incorporated into Altenkunstadt.

Jan Riedel (FBO) currently represents the Strössendorf part of the municipality as a council member of Altenkunstadt.

etymology

The name Strössendorf comes from the Slavic "Streso", which means something like protection. This could have related to flood protection against Main floods, but also to protection against predatory attacks. The Main crossing was particularly worthy of protection, a bridge was first mentioned in 1774. On the other hand, Strössendorf could also be derived from the Slavic male name Strez, which could have been the village ruler at the time the name was given and also had a protective function.
