Premonitions of War was an American metalcore , grindcore, and hardcore punk band from Toledo , Ohio that was formed in 2000 and split in 2005.

history

The band was founded in September 2000 by guitarists Pay Meyers and Mike Gaytan and drummer Dustin Schoenhofer. The three friends had played in bands together for almost four years. In the same year a self-titled EP was released , on which the singer Tim Amstutz and bassist Anthony Amstutz can be heard in addition to the three members mentioned. In November 2002, Goodfellow Records released the debut album The True Faces of Panic with singer Brad Wharton and bassist Nick Hale as new members. In addition, the group held performances, among others with The Red Chord , Between the Buried and Me and The Black Dahlia Murder . In February 2003 the band signed a recording deal with Victory Records . She then went to Mana Recording Studios in Tampa , Florida for three weeks with producers Shawn Ohtani and Erik Rutan in October to record the album Left in Kowloon . The publication took place the following year. In December 2003, the band split from bassist Hale. With the new bassist Adam Wentworth, who previously worked for The Red Chord, Macabre toured North America in March 2004 . In April the band took part in the Morbid Angels Tour and also performed with Suffocation . That same month, Hale returned to the cast.

In December 2004 it went on a US tour with Six Feet Under , Internal Bleeding and Misery Index . Cory Grady from The Black Dahlia Murder joined as the new drummer in December. Schoenhofer then joined the Walls of Jericho that same month . Also in the same month, Hale resigned and was replaced by Dan Garcia shortly thereafter. The year 2005 began with a tour of the USA with Bury Your Dead , Full Blown Chaos and Walls of Jericho in January and February. Performances in Canada followed in April with Ion Dissonance and Despised Icon . In the same year the band broke up. About Black Market Activities 2005 the compilation Glorified Dirt + The True Face of Panic was released , which consists of the 2000 debut EP, which was re-recorded, and the debut album.

style

David Perri, in The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 4: The '00s, described the music on Left in Kowloon as a mixture of death metal and extreme metalcore. However, the album seemed more aggressive at the time, as a few years many other bands had played in at least a similar aggressive way. However, the music is far from a bad version of metalcore or deathcore . According to Anzo Sadoni from Metal Hammer , the band on Left in Kowloon plays a hard and nasty mix of hardcore punk, grindcore and metalcore. In addition to a few quiet, slow moments, there is almost only unstructured noise to be heard.
