Presence is the seventh studio album by the British rock band Led Zeppelin . It was recorded and produced in Munich in November and December 1975 within three weeks and released on March 31, 1976 by Swan Song Records .
The album was created after Robert Plant's serious car accident on August 5, 1975 in Rhodes . Plant sat in a wheelchair or in an armchair across from the band during the recording. The songs were written in Malibu while he was recovering . Therefore, the texts are mainly about life itself, especially about losses and setbacks that people suffer.
The opening track Achilles Last Stand is the third longest song by Led Zeppelin at 10 minutes and 25 seconds after In My Time Of Dying (11:06) and Carouselambra (10:34). Jimmy Page reportedly said it was his favorite Led Zeppelin song. Since her tour of America in 1977, the title has been standard on every subsequent appearance.
Presence is the only Led Zeppelin album that doesn't use keyboards or acoustic guitars.
It is also the first to feature heavy metal influences ( Achilles Last Stand ).
