The class G 9 steam locomotive of the Mallet type of the Prussian State Railways was a freight locomotive .

description

The special thing about the machine were the two groups of engines , each with two driven axles and two cylinders. The front group of engines is designed as a bogie , the rear one sits firmly in the frame. This design made the locomotives particularly suitable for winding routes. The straight-line stability was initially not so good due to rolling movements, but was later improved through modifications. Owing to the frequent leaks in the moving steam lines and their complex construction, they were very maintenance-intensive. Thus, only 27 copies were purchased, which had been built between 1893 and 1898 by the Alsatian mechanical engineering company Grafenstaden . The Baden State Railways also received almost identical machines with the VIIIc series . The machines were a Tender equipped the Prussian design 3 T 12th

The locomotives were developed for the routes in the Eifel , Moselle , Saarland and Silesia and were initially assigned to the Royal Railway Directorates (KED) in Breslau , Essen , Kattowitz and Saarbrücken . In 1910 there were four locomotives in the KED Breslau, ten locomotives in the KED Kassel , eleven locomotives in the KED Essen and two locomotives in the KED Katowice. In 1912, two Essen machines were at home in the Thorn -Mocker KED Bromberg depot . The retirement of the first locomotives began in 1912/13, the last vehicles were retired during the First World War .
