The T 8 of the Prussian State Railways were superheated steam freight train tender locomotives . Originally, they were also intended for passenger traffic in Berlin and on branch lines. Due to their poor running properties, they were only used in shunting and local freight train services. In the years from 1906 to 1908, 100 units were built, 80 of which were still available in 1923 and 78 in 1925 at the Deutsche Reichsbahn , which it included in its classification plan as the 89.0 series with the road numbers 89 001-078 . However, due to their poor running properties, they were soon sold to private railways.

After the First World War , ten machines came to Poland , which were classified as Tkh3 by the PKP .

In 1938, through the nationalization of the local railway company Munich, two copies as 89 1001 and 1002 came back into possession of the Reichsbahn. After the nationalization of the Mecklenburgische Friedrich-Wilhelm-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1941, two more T 8s came to the Reichsbahn as 89 1003 and 1004. Two more vehicles came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a result of the nationalization of the private railways on April 1, 1949 as 89 6476 and 6576 , where the last one remained in service until 1965. The Deutsche Bundesbahn had one vehicle as a works locomotive, which was located in the Schwerte repair shop until 1964 .

The 89 1004 has been preserved as a museum locomotive in the DB Museum Halle (Saale) .
