The Pride of Rotterdam (German: "Stolz Rotterdams") is a RoPax ferry registered in the Netherlands for passengers and goods, which for P&O Ferries with its sister ship Pride of Hull the 378 km (204 nautical miles ) long connection Kingston upon Hull - Rotterdam served.

description

The Pride of Rotterdam is about 215.5 meters long, 31.9 meters wide and has a maximum draft of about 6 meters.

It is powered by four Wärtsilä 9L46C diesel engines with a total output of 37,800 kW. They can accelerate this to a top speed of 22 knots (around 41 km / h).

The Pride of Rotterdam can carry up to 1,360 passengers. It has 3,300 linear loading meters and can load 250 cars and a maximum of 400 truck trailers. Cars and motorcycles enter the ship via a side ramp and are stowed away from the goods area. The truck and container enter a separate loading area via the rear.

history

The Pride of Rotterdam in the Port of Rotterdam (2009)

The keel of the ship built under construction number 6065 was laid on March 1, 1999. Originally it was to be called Pride of Hull , but the name was changed to Pride of Rotterdam before it was launched on September 29, 2000 . The Pride of Rotterdam was handed over to the shipping company P&O North Sea Ferries on April 12, 2001 in Venice , Italy . She was baptized on April 27, 2001 by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and started her service on April 30, 2001 on the Rotterdam – Kingston upon Hull route.

The owner of the Pride of Rotterdam is Hampton Shipping, it is managed and operated by P&O North Sea Ferries. The home port of the ship with the callsign PBAJ is Rotterdam. It is classified by Lloyd's Register of Shipping . The ship has a gross measurement of 59,925 GT.

Since the Pride of Rotterdam and its sister Pride of Hull are too wide for a passage through the lock in the port of Hull, Associated British Ports built a new terminal just for these two ferries on the Humber . The construction of the P&O ferry terminal cost around 14.3 million euros.

On November 21, 2005 the Dutch band BZN played in the show program at the Pride of Rotterdam in honor of the 40th anniversary of the ferry connection between Hull and Rotterdam on the crossing from Rotterdam to Hull . On the return trip a day later, the group also performed.

On December 3, 2008, a crew member went overboard off the east coast of Great Britain . Extensive search and rescue operations , including eight motor lifeboats and helicopters of the Royal Air Force -based Leconfield and the British Army - military airfield Wattisham Airfield , were unsuccessful, were stopped and told the crew member missing.

Trivia

With their dimensions and transport capacities, the Pride of Rotterdam and the structurally identical Pride of Hull were the largest RoRo ferries in the world from 2001 to 2004. In 2004 this title fell to the Norwegian Color Fantasy .

In many ship simulation games, including “Ship Simulator 2008” and “Ship Simulator Extreme”, the player is able to control the Pride of Rotterdam in regions around the world.
